Mining is one of British Columbia’s safest heavy industries, and the Province’s mining sector is recognized as a world leader in mine health and safety practices.
All mine site operations are conducted under the strict safety regulations of British Columbia’s Mines Act and the accompanying Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia which protect workers and the public through provisions for minimizing the health, safety and environmental risks related to mining activities.
British Columbia’s strong track record for mine safety is not only achieved through regulation, but also the development of rigorous Mine Emergency Response plans which are continuously monitored by a network of on the ground Mine Inspectors.
In keeping with its leadership in mine safety regulation and monitoring, British Columbia’s Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources recognizes achievement in mine safety each year with the Mine Safety Awards and the management of an annual Provincial Mine Rescue Competition.
