The impact of the mining industry on the history of Kamloops area dates back to before BC joined confederation with the gold rush of the 1850’s when many adventurers passed through the Kamloops region, which eventually led to the establishment of the first farms in response to the demand for food.
Copper was discovered in the area and a cluster of copper mines contributed strongly to the economic growth of today’s Kamloops. Mining continues to have a large impact on the Kamloops economy, with numerous mineral and metal mines in the region and dozens of mining supply companies supporting local jobs and the community.
